Description | 124 PP. Pocketbook, light-brown coloured wrappers. spine sunned and a trifle worn., also with small tear [1cm.] at upper cover. Here the translation, reportedly by Robert Nurenberg, of an autobiographical work: Vie d'une prostituée. According to Jean-Jacques Pauvert, the French text was first published in expurgated form in issue nr. 27 (Dec. 1947) of Jean-Paul Sartre's review "Les Temps Modernes", and shortly afterwards [presumably in mid-1948 ] in an integral version from a clandestine publisher. (J.-J. Pauvert, Anthologie des lectures érotiques, Paris: Editions Ramsay, 1980, p. 61.) And Pascal Pia (Les Livres de l'Enfer, Paris: Coulet et Faure, 1978, vol. II, p. 728) states that it was published in 1946. The author's true identity is reported to be Marie-Therese Cointre, and an openly published American edition as "Memoirs of a Prostitute" appeared in 1966 under that name, with a preface by Simone de Beauvoir. This edition is the sought after Olympia Press edition. |
