| Description | 2 Engraved title pages with elaborate engraved borders, and engraved dedication page, in Dutch and French to Mr. Ieronimo Tonnemans by ["his humble servant" Mattys Pool.] with descriptions in Dutch, French and English of the life and work of the artists involved. A collection of 101 engravings by Mattys Pool, of the sculptures by Francis van Bossuit (1635 -1692] after the drawings by Barent Graat. There are also 2 full page engraved portraits of Bossuit and Graat, according to the [engraved] Tafel [Table] all prints are present as called for. Very good impressions on large, strong, moulded paper, verso's blank. In the original blue paper covered boards [spine weak, partly gone] Sheet size: 26 x 20,3 cm. Average print size:15 x 8 cm. some are smaller and join a page. Prints numbered in Roman numerals at bottom, with monogram ["MPS"] of Pool at the right hand side and F van B [Francois van Bossuit], on the left hand side. Some [5] plates are cut down, and inserted from another copy, some pages loosely inserted. Ex library tickets from Haentjes Dekkers- Von Nordheim and the well known collector Jhr. J.Six. |
