Description20 PP. explanatory text [with finely chromo-lithographed borders] title in red and black, one map, [Asia] a bibliography, and 150 full page plates (of which are 12 double plates, each numbered as two plates) and 1 monochrome plus 7 "key plans" (plates 1a, 22a, 58a, 72a, 76a, 80a, 82a); Contemporary 1/2 calf with gilt lettering, A.E.G.The finest ever printed book on Asian carpets printed with the utmost care, giving almost every detail.....in the finest possible colour printing. INCOMPLETE COPY!!!!! 4 (four) plates missing!!!! In spite of the fine overall condition, there are some plates lacking; Plates: 101 & 102 misbound, wanting the double page plates; 112-13 & 114-15 &124-25 as well as the single plate: 88. This book was published in installments, propably one went asray before binding the lot...Margins slightly browned, right-hand side of upper cover with some unobstrusive, damp damage and a number of rubber stamps by the former owner at verso of plates. In spite of the mentioned defects, a monumental work on antique Asian carpets of the greatest rarity and value.
