The book contanis a large number of [often quite large]folding tables with data on [e.g.] Exchange rates, The results/ proceedings of ships, both from the East Indies and Cape of Good Hope, Shares of the " V.O.C." The results of the British from their Indian colonies, Finances of France, and the French East India Company, A general table with the proceeds of India, China, Mauritius and Bourbon. A table of the value of the goods imported from Brazil [Diamonds, and other gems, mint gold and goldbars. Coffee, Cacoa, Tobacco, Wood, Cinnamon, Hides ,etc. etc]. Demographic data on Spain, as well of the cargo of the Spanish fleet.an extensive sheet, listing all goods and their value that went from Spain to the America' s .Extensive data on Porto Rico, Cuba et. etc. etc. A wealth of data and figures seldomly found in other sources.. Vol.I at PP. 189-196 Seriously damaged at centre of page by an " eaten away" section, caused by an aggressive inkstain. Later but sound half calf bindings, spines with raised bands and title pieces. [sold with all faults!] In spite of the missing maps and the other defects, still a seductive book, especially with this modest price.....See for the French edition:Sabin Nr. 68080 and also to be found in Kress. |
