Some plates inserted from other copies, some rebacked, or faintly printed, some waterstains. Bound in 19Th. Century 1/2 leather, spine with raised bands, new endpapers. This is the second French Edition, the1St. appeared in 1612. Most editions of this valuable work are to be considered as "very rare" according to F.Muller in his Dutch History in Pictures:Vol. I. 977; Note: 1 pp. 115-17. Orlers,1570-1646 was (later) the Burgomaster of Leiden, after his career as a publisher/printer. In spite of the somewhat mediocre condition, still a desirable work . |
