descriptionThis famous invention of Simon Stevin, presented here to Prins Maurits, always interested in "modernities" It seated 28 people and could reach a speed of appr. 40 Km. /Hr. The print was published in the famous 2 Volume Townbook by Blaeu published to commemorate the peace with Spain [The Munster treaty] after the so called "Eighty Years War" of independence. The engraving by Visscher is in fact a copy after the drawing by de Gheyn, who eyewittnessed the event.
